music soul child: jack and diane
Although I grew up a military brat I am proud to be a Hoosier and call Indiana my home! I grew up in a tiny, awesome town called Culver. You should look it up. It's pretty awesome. Anyway, whenever I hear Jack and Diane by John Mellencamp I automatically think of my mom(she loved him) and Indiana. To me, Indiana is just a true all American, Midwest place. I think of all the state roads and cornfields and wheatfields that used to surround me and it makes me happy and I instantly want to go back. I want to drive through the WestVirgina Turn Pike and see all the tiny towns on the way there with their American Flags hanging from their light posts. I want to see tiny gas stations and no name grocery stores.
Two of my favorite lines are obviously the opening. "Two American Kids growing up in the Heartland" and the most bittersweet being "Hold onto sixteen as long as you can, changes come around real soon make us women and men!"
I don't know about you but I feel like I was just 16. I still have so many vivid flashbacks of my childhood and teenage years. Where did the time go and what the hell have I been doing that it happened so fast! Until next tune!
Cheers, LB
